Cyclists should be courteous to drivers

In this world of high gas prices, those who ride bicycles should be commended. Those who participate in the weekly bike ride starting at Jaycee Park should not. In an effort to deliver my son to soccer practice at Huntoon, I encountered a mass of cars, bicycles and the owners of the bicycles, who seemingly have no regard for the rest of us "non-bikers." After managing to get to Huntoon, on my return trip I got to weave my way back out of the pack and follow a group up Oak St. at 5 mph. I believe that is called "impeding traffic" and warrants a citation. Come on, bikers. Have your fun, but do it courteously, safely, and with the understanding you don't own the road.

Steve Johnston

Oregon
